On August 1, 2017 League City Animal Shelter changed it’s name to LEAGUE CITY PETS ALIVE to reflect our mission to make League City a NO KILL city and the shelter a NO KILL shelter.
Euthanasia is not the norm at LCPA. The vast majority of dogs and cats are live release. This is made possible by the use of foster homes to free up shelter space, and increased adoption opportunities. LCPA also partners with other nation wide NO KILL shelters by transporting adoptable animals to these other shelters where eager adopters are waiting.
Animals are euthanized only for select reasons. Terminal illnesses (the animal has no hope for survival), severe injury that makes quality of life poor, and viciousness that has not been able to be corrected with intensive training.
New programs have been implemented that make the animals more adoptable. Canine Good Citizenship Training (many of these dogs are adopted before they even complete their training), sending select dogs to Starmark in Austin for specialized training (most of these animals are adopted upon graduation), and the newest that will be implemented in November, Dogs Playing For Life.
Feline Friends (the cat whisperers) work diligently on socializing feral and timid cats and kittens, making them more appealing to potential adopters.
Visit LCPA to see for yourself the improvements in animal behavior and the wonderful animals available for adoption. LCPA is located at 821 N. Kansas in League City. Business hours are Tuesday – Thursday 10am – 6pm. Friday and Saturday 10am-5pm..
